Few things would draw me anywhere near a place frequented by golfers.
Call me an old fusspot, but I really can’t abide encountering overly-competitive middle class men clad in pastel-coloured sweaters, tastefully-hued slacks and very silly shoes.

Vanilla crème brulee, strawberries
Passion fruit tart, mango, bitter chocolate, coconut.
The seven course taster menu at Ryder Grill is available for £40 per person with the option of adding a specially selected array of wines for an extra £25.
The dishes are also available on the a la carte menu.
Visiting as a guest two nights into the new menu, I found the cooking generally spot-on.
A silky chicken liver parfait, for instance, was paired with a savoury granola and little dice of sharp but sweet pineapple.
Sea trout came with a crunchy chorizo crumb that added a whack of seasoning to the dish.
A passion fruit tart, topped with meringue and accompanied by mango and coconut, was for me the highlight of a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Throughout, this was well-judged and well-executed cooking that made me forget the proximity of the world’s most tedious sport.
