Here’s what’s on the menu when Simon Hulstone comes to Birmingham

Birmingham’s Michelin-starred Simpsons hosts two major events this autumn, starting with a visit by renowned chef Simon Hulstone.

Simon was the first British chef to win gold in the World Skills competition in 1995 and will be heading up the kitchen at Simpsons on Monday October 9.
He’s chef proprietor of The Elephant in Torquay, which has held a Michelin star for 12 years.

Simon will be supported by Simpsons chefs as he creates a five-course menu, using the very best seasonal produce, including ingredients sourced from The Elephant’s dedicated farm in south Devon and Norwegian fjord trout.
Simpsons executive chef Luke Tipping said: “Simon is a very talented chef who I have a great deal of respect for, as have many of his peers.
“It’s going to be a fantastic evening and I know our chefs are going to have a great time working with him.”

The menu

Salted toffee pea soup, prawns, fennel pollen
Cured fjord trout, soy dressing, yoghurt, Cornish dulce, cucumber
Saltd of smoked pigeon and skate, pickled vegetables, apple
Loin of venison, onion ash, broccoli, haunch bon bon
Chilled bitter chocolate fondant, burnt butter ice cream.
The five-course menu is priced at £75.
Tickets for the dinner are selling fast.

The second event is on Wednesday November 22 when Simpsons Eureka Kitchen Cookery School will be taken over by John Gregory-Smith, chef, food and travel writer and author of four successful cookbooks.
He’ll demonstrate recipes from his latest book Orange Blossom and Honey in the first of many guest takeovers from food personalities from the UK and beyond.
Orange Blossom and Honey, inspired by John’s travels throughout Morocco, includes authentic home cooking and sizzling street food.
John will demonstrate how to cook three recipes from the book, including Zaalouk with halloumi and a Royal Lamb Tagine.

He’ll then hand over to the class to prepare the dishes themselves.
Priced at £180 per person, the hands-on cookery class will take place from 9.30am until 2pm, including refreshments, a glass of champagne, lunch, a signed copy of Orange Blossom and Honey and a pomegranate chocolate cake to takeaway.
