Glynn Purnell will be making a welcome return to the city’s biggest free-entry food and drink festival.

The Michelin-starred chef and Saturday Morning Kitchen TV show host will help officially launch Colmore Food Festival 2017 before hosting cookery demonstrations on the Kitchen Stage.
The festival will take place between Friday June and Saturday July 1 from 11am-7pm.

Glynn has won numerous awards and national accolades for his contemporary fine dining with an eclectic twist. He last appeared at Colmore Food Festival in 2014 but was forced to miss the last two events due to a busy work schedule.
The annual celebration of Colmore Business District restaurants, bars, cafes and hotels, is now in its seventh year, and each year attracts more than 30,000 visitors.

Eat for £4

Colmore Food Festival is hosted by the area’s Business Improvement District (BID) and prides itself on each of the taster dishes costing no more than £4, which means visitors can try the different menu options on offer at the 35 stalls without breaking the bank.
Glynn owns two restaurants in Colmore Business District – Purnell’s and Purnell’s Bistro.
Both will be showcased at the festival.
“What’s great about Colmore Food Festival is that it’s in the city centre,” said Glynn.
“This is celebrating all things Birmingham, right in the centre of Birmingham, which is the centre of the universe as far as I’m concerned!

“There are so many independents, which is great to see. Opening a restaurant is difficult when you’re against the bigger brands, so it’s fantastic to see so many up and running in the city centre and this is a chance for all restaurants large and small to stand side by side.

Good neighbours

“We’re obviously all competing for business but it’s great for us all to come out as neighbours, and to borrow a cup of sugar or a fillet steak or two!”
What can visitors expect from Glynn and the Purnell’s team at Colmore Food Festival 2017?
“I always try to bring an essence of Purnell’s to events like Colmore Food Festival so you get chance to have a few mouthfuls of what we do at the main restaurant, but we’ve also got the casual dining and cocktails on offer at the Bistro.
“It’s always a chance to showcase both restaurants and to celebrate the fantastic food on offer in Birmingham,” he added.
Mike Best of Colmore Business District said: “We’re really looking forward to another great Food Festival 2017, where we’ll be once again showcasing food and drink from the great hospitality business in the Colmore area of the city.”
