There can be few pleasures greater than drinking wine with a bloke who’s an expert on the subject but is affable and absolutely lacking in pomposity.
When the wine is ethically produced and sourced, it’s even better.
Which is why a forthcoming evening with the Wine Events Company is so appealing.
Its founder Tony Evin, former manager of the Hotel du Vin in Birmingham, has linked up with Central England Co-Op to promote Fairtrade wines.
The hour-long online tasting takes place on Wednesday, June 24, starting at 7.30pm.
It’s free to attend – all people need to do is register online and visit their local Co-Op to buy the four wines being tasted.
The four bottles will set you back less than £20.
• Co-op Fairtrade South African Chenin Blanc 75cl
• Co-op Fairtrade Argentinian Bonarda Shiraz 75cl
• Co-op Fairtrade South African Rose 75cl
• Co-op Fairtrade South African Sauvignon Blanc 75cl
Tony explained: “The aim is to let people know that they can get great wine at great value prices whilst still making sure that the producers get a fair price for their produce.”
Those taking part will not only sample the four excellent wines, but will learn the basics of wine tasting and enjoy games, activities and polls to ensure everyone has fun.
Everyone taking part will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a case of Fairtrade wines.
