Simpsons in Edgbaston has been ranked in the Big 7 Travel top 50 vegan restaurants in the world.
The Big 7 Top 50 list was compiled using votes from a reader survey, suggestions from the travel website’s contributors and aggregated previous media coverage.
The results were then overseen by a panel of food experts.
It’s not the first time the Michelin-starred restaurant has been recognised for its vegan offering – last year Simpsons was included in top ten UK vegan restaurants by animal rights organisation PETA.
The criteria for being included in the Big 7 Top 50 did not require establishments to be 100% plant-based but required the restaurant to have more than 50% vegan options on the menu and to have a focus on promoting plant-based dishes alongside sustainable ingredients.
Luke Tipping, executive chef at Simpsons said: “As a chef, creating elevated vegan food has presented a new challenge but it’s one we’ve relished.
“After 25 years in business, we pride ourselves on moving with the times and this global accolade is testament to the team’s passion for great ingredients and dedication to producing delicious vegan dishes.”
Sarah Clayton-Lea, content editor at Big Seven Media, said: “Whether you’re a hardcore carnivore or have fully embraced a vegan plant-based lifestyle, you can’t argue that veganism has really hit the big time this year.
“To celebrate the amazing restaurants that are making waves with plant-based dishes, Big 7 Travel decided to seek out the best vegan-friendly restaurants in the EU.
“It’s predicted that by 2040, only 40% of the global population will be consuming meat, so these restaurants are already ahead of the curve.
“It’s great to see such recognition of the fact that vegan food is just as delicious – if not more so – than you may think.”
