Birmingham’s much-praised chef Niki Astley has found a new permanent home.
Niki is to move into the the kitchen at 1000 Trades in the Jewellery Quarter from August 6, supported by his partner Georgia Radenschi.
He will bring an evolving menu of small plates and overseeing an occasional series of pop-ups and collaborations from some of Birmingham best chefs throughout the year.
Niki shot to fame when he opened Two Cats in the Jewellery Quarter which, despite great critical acclaim, closed last year after two years in business.
Among its fans was Marina O’Loughlin, who wrote a glowing review in The Guardian.
Since closing Two Cats last autumn, Niki has travelled extensively, gaining new culinary inspiration, and has concentrated on his Salt & Earth pop-up concept, including residencies at 1000 Trades.
Niki said: “We’re excited to be deepening our relationship with 1000 Trades by moving in permanently to the kitchen.
“We’ve decided to take what we’ve learned are successful dishes and adapt our format to fit a wider clientele, hopefully creating menus that are delicious, familiar and exotic at the same time.
“We’ll also be offering a selection of bar nibbles, artisan cheeses and charcuterie alongside our current format of small plates.”
• Stay tuned for details of pop-ups and events in the coming months.
