Solihull is to get a new upmarket Indian restaurant.
Asha’s, the international award-winning restaurant, will be opening in the Touchwood Centre in the spring.
It’s the second big name to open in the town recently, with the Lasan Group launching a branch of its Argentinian steakhouse and bar Fiesta del Asado in Stratford Road, Shirley, just before Christmas.
The Asha group is named after one of India’s most famous singers and actors, Asha Bhosle.
It will be Asha’s second venue in the Midlands, along with the Birmingham city centre venue.
Other Asha’s restaurants include Manchester, Dubai, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.
Pawan Kenth, a director of Asha’s, said: “We have been looking for a location in Solihull and South Birmingham for a while.
“Our customers, many of whom have lived in the West Midlands all their lives, have always complained there hasn’t been a high-end Indian restaurant in the south of Birmingham for decades so have been asking us for quite a few years to open up.
“When we were approached by Touchwood to open in the centre, we believed our independent offering would be a great addition to the centre and the wider area.”
While the deal has only recently been agreed with Touchwood, planning has been ongoing for a several months.
Mr Kenth added: “We have been working with the design team in Dubai, who have flown over to work on the project, to ensure we maintain the authentic and independent experience our loyal customers are now accustomed to.”
The new Asha’s will be on the upper terrace next door to Nando’s will offer a bespoke bar and dining for approximately 120.
As with the Birmingham restaurant, there will be a private dining area.
